For almost two years now the world economy has been in a downward spiral. Suddenly everyone wanted to know how to do everything on a budget and what measures they could take to escape unscathed. There are signs that a bit of sunshine may be peeping around the corner and even President Obama was quoted as saying "we may have stepped away from the precipice".

Before you whip out your credit cards for a celebratory shopping spree let us recognize that advice that was solid in the midst of a recession will still be valid post recession although we may be less likely to heed the warnings.

As they say... slow but steady wins the race. It may be thrilling to suddenly come into a heap of cash, but how often does this happen? And when it does, how long does it last? It can be argued that it is far better to be the tortoise than the hare when it comes to personal finance matters. The tortoise takes the time to think through his decisions and makes intelligent investments while the hare may be quick to rush into get rich quick schemes. Even if the hare does get a lucky break and comes upon a sizable amount of money he is also more likely to have an easy come easy go attitude and may very well end up with less than he had at the start.
